SAVE THE DATE - Registration Opens Soon

Forecasting long-term energy trends begins with a simple fact: people need energy.  Over the next few decades, population and income growth – and an unprecedented expansion of the global middle class – are expected to create new demands for energy.  As people’s needs and modern technologies continue to evolve, so too will the energy landscape.

The scale and nature of this challenge is readily apparent in ExxonMobil’s Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040, a long-term global forecast of energy demand and supply trends.  For example, as global economic output more than doubles by 2040, energy demand will increase about 25 percent, even with significant efficiency gains.  Energy demand in the developing (non OECD) nations will drive nearly all of the global energy demand increase.

Ongoing progress poses the dual challenge of meeting the world’s energy needs to advance living standards while managing the environmental effects of energy use.  While there is no single or simple solution to this challenge, practical options to meet people’s needs for reliable, affordable energy continue to expand.

Understanding the factors that drive the world’s energy needs – and likely choices to meet those needs – is the mission of The Outlook.  By sharing The Outlook, ExxonMobil hopes to broaden the understanding among individuals, businesses and governments.  Energy matters to everyone, and we all play a role in shaping its future and helping advance prosperity.

Space is limited. BABC encourages early registration as the event is likely to sell out quickly.

With the UK government’s growing interest in expanding their medical devices, pharmacological and medical research industries, a relationship with the Texas Medical Center in Houston, the largest medical center in the world, would deliver great advantages.

To further develop this relationship, the BABC has chosen to honor Pumps & Pipes with our 2016 Consul General Award.  On a flight black to Houston, Scottish born Dr. Alan Lumsden, a cardiovascular surgeon at Houston Methodist Hospital, and the passenger next to him, an Exxon Mobil drilling engineer, struck up a conversation about their respective professions. By the time they landed, it was clear that both worked in pumps & pipes professions. The conversation continued with Dr. Bill Kline from Exxon Mobil Upstream Research and the Pumps & Pipes Program was formed under their leadership. P&P now facilitates and encourages technology transfer between Houston’s 3 largest industries and the UK’s major investments here:  Energy, Medicine and Aerospace. Its guiding principle to problem solving is exploring “The Other Guy’s Toolkit”.

In addition to honoring Pumps & Pipes, Dr. Denton Cooley will receive the “World Icon of Medicine” award for a lifetime of service to improving the health of mankind. The awards dinner, Oct. 12, will be the first public event of the newly remodeled Trevisio’s Restaurant atop the 6 story water wall in the Medical Center.

Honorary Chairs for this event have come from the Medicine, Energy and Aerospace sectors. Larry Lawson founder eCardio and advisor to Texas Medical Center Accelerator program will represent Medicine and Rob Franklin president of Exxon Mobil Gas and Power Marketing will represent the Energy industry. Buzz Aldrin, former Gemini and Apollo  astronaut and 2nd man to walk on the moon, has agreed to represent the Aerospace industry.

An impressive Host Committee is being assembled and BABC will announce the Host Committee’s names at an event at a later date. Top levels of sponsorship of the awards dinner will allow companies to have one of the Pumps & Pipes board members at their table.

Amazing media interest has already been generated and with more names being connected to the event, the interest will continue to grow.
